HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Mars Hill 6-0 Erskine
The Fleet stepped away from the rigors of Conference Carolinas play on Thursday to take on the Mars Hill Lions, and the first game of the doubleheader turned into a pitcher's duel. Erskine starter
Payton Cox put up a pair of zeroes in her first two innings, but was matched by the MHU starter. An RBI groundout in the third inning gave the visitors the lead, but Cox continued to pitch well into the later innings, keeping Erskine within a run. However, the Fleet offense was held in check, and Mars Hill scored five times in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Game 2: Mars Hill 11-3 Erskine (Final / 6 innings)
Mars Hill scored three runs in their first at-bat to take an early lead, but Erskine started chipping away with a run in the bottom half of the first thanks to an RBI single from
Peyton Rabon. Both teams went quietly in the second and third innings, but the visitors scored seven times in the top of the fourth.
Hannah Henderson and
Hailey Watson each recorded RBIs in the next couple frames for the Fleet, but MHU took Game 2 via the run rule after six innings.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet have the weekend off before they get back into conference play and go to Converse University (13-25, 4-10 CC) next Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
