HOW IT HAPPENED
After a couple of scoreless innings to start the night, Limestone opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning. Armando Becerra tied the game in the next half inning with a run-scoring double, but the Saints regained the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom half, making it a 3-1 game. But, in the top of the fifth, Christian Rivera led off with a single and Tariq Bacon tied the game with a huge two-run home run over the left center field fence. The Saints scored two runs of their own to go back in front in the sixth, meaning the Fleet had some work to do in the late innings. In the eighth inning, following singles from Tyler Smith and Carlos Gonzalez, Ashby Smith slapped a single the other way, scoring Tyler Smith and getting Erskine back within a run. Limestone got that run back in the bottom half of the eighth, so the deficit stayed at two runs heading into the ninth. With Erskine down to its last strike, Dalton Boyd kept the Fleet's hopes alive with a solo home run over the right center field wall, making it a one-run game again. But, that was as close as Erskine got, as they fell by a score of 6-5.

THE PLAYER
Armando Becerra was for 3-for-5 at the plate atop the Erskine order. The Fleet center fielder also tallied an RBI with a fourth-inning double.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine goes on the road this weekend for a tall test against No. 20 UNC Pembroke (24-8, 10-5 CC) with a three-game series starting on Friday at 6 p.m. The Fleet were victorious in their last visit to Pembroke, earning a 10-5 win back in the 2015 season.
