HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Chowan 4-3 Erskine (Final / 8 innings)
After a couple of scoreless innings to start the afternoon, Erskine opened the scoring thanks to an RBI double from
Maddie Ingram in the third inning. Then,
Hailey Watson and
Mary Elizabeth Ballard each added RBIs in the top of the fourth, giving the Fleet a 3-0 lead. But, Chowan answered back with a pair of runs of its own in the bottom half, and then tied the game in the sixth inning. Both teams went quietly in the seventh, sending the game to extra innings. The Fleet threatened with runners on second and third and no outs, but were unable to take the lead, and Chowan scored the courtesy run in the bottom half to win the opener.
Game 2: Erskine 13-5 Chowan (Final / 6 innings)
After both teams scored in their first inning at the plate, the Fleet offense imposed its will in the second.
Amber Clark started the scoring with an RBI double, before
Kyndall Chandler drove in another run on a bunt single.
Gabby Burroughs capped the four-run frame with an opposite-field two-run double, giving Erskine a 5-1 lead. Chowan cut the lead in half with a two-run fourth, but the Erskine offense continued to produce. Clark began another four-run inning in the fifth, this time with a two-run double. She came around to score on an RBI single from Chandler, before Burroughs drove in another run as those three spearheaded the Fleet lineup all game. Erskine added four more in their half of the sixth, thanks to run-scoring hits from
Hailey Watson,
Brooke Patterson, and
Maddie Ingram, as the Fleet won via the run rule, 13-5, earning a split of the road doubleheader.
THE PLAYER
Amber Clark had just one hit in Game 1, but was at the center of everything for the Fleet offense in Game 2, going 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, four runs scored and three driven in.
