HOW IT HAPPENED
Kaley Ingle retired the side in order in each of her first two innings in the circle, and the Fleet threatened to open the scoring in the bottom of the second, but stranded a pair of runners in scoring position, keeping the game scoreless. But, Ingle struck out the side in order in the top of the third inning and then led off the bottom half with a solo home run over the center field fence, as she helped herself and gave the Fleet a 1-0 lead. Then, in the fourth inning, it was Brooke Patterson's turn to hit a leadoff home run, doubling the Fleet lead with her first big fly of the season. Maddie Ingram followed with a double and came around to score on a wild pitch, before Peyton Rabon crossed home on a Saints error, as Erskine opened up a 4-0 lead after four innings. Ingle continued to dominate, working around some traffic in the fifth and sixth innings to preserve a 4-0 lead. The Saints broke the shutout with a two-out home run in the seventh, but Ingle induced a ground out to the next batter, ending a convincing 4-1 victory for the Fleet.

THE PLAYER
Sophomore Kaley Ingle was outstanding again on Saturday, tossing her second complete-game in as many days, allowing just one run on four hits and striking out 11 without issuing a walk. At the plate, Ingle also launched her first home run of the season, a solo home run that opened the scoring in the third inning.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine stays on the road for its first traditional doubleheader of the season, against USC Aiken (0-6) on Tuesday at 1 p.m. The Fleet swept a doubleheader in their last visit to Aiken, back in 2019.
