Erskine Women's Basketball | Cook's game-winner leads Fleet past Lees-McRae in home conference opener

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College women's basketball team (2-5, 1-1 CC)  defeated Lees-McRae College (1-5, 0-2 CC) by a score of 48-46 at Belk Arena on Thursday.

In what was a defensive struggle and close affair all afternoon long, the Fleet rallied from behind in the closing minutes, and senior Anzya Cook made a game-winning layup in the final seconds as the Fleet escaped with a win.

THE PLAYER
Sophomore Albany Wilson returned to action on Thursday and picked up right where she left off, finishing the day with her first career double-double, totaling a game-high 18 points to go with 11 rebounds. Wilson also made her presence felt on the defensive end with three steals and a block.

THE TEAM
Erskine shot just 26% (18-69) from the field and 22% (5-23) from three-point range. The Fleet were just 44% (7-16) from the free throw line, but were carried by their defense all afternoon long, forcing 29 LMC turnovers as seven different Erskine players registered a steal in the game.

WHAT'S NEXT? 
Erskine heads into finals week and will have an extended break before returning to action on its home court next Saturday, December 16 against Barton College (0-8, 0-1 CC) at 2 p.m.
