DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College men's soccer team (0-2) was defeated by the University of North Georgia (3-1-0) by a score of 3-0 in the Fleet's home opener on Saturday evening at Huggins Field.

THE MATCH
Erskine took on a talented North Georgia team with a couple of notable non-conference wins in the Fleet's home opener and it didn't take long for the visitors to go in front. A Nighthawks cross set up Payge Sinclair for a goal from close range to open the scoring. Despite being outshot 11 to 4 in the first half, Erskine stayed in the game and kept the deficit to just one goal until the dying seconds of the opening period, when a lofted goal from Harris Osmanbasic  doubled UNG's lead heading into the halftime break. The Fleet were on the defensive for most of the second half as well, but had a chance to set up an entertaining finish. In the 82nd minute, Hudson Lewis controlled a lofted pass beautifully with his chest, allowing him to turn and let off venomous right-footed volley that rippled the top right corner of the goal, but an offisde flag came to North Georgia's rescue and kept Erskine off the board. Moments later, Will Bentley sealed the win for the visitors with a goal, wrapping up a 3-0 loss for Erskine in its first home match of 2022.

THE TEAM
Erskine was outshot 21 to 5, and North Georgia totaled 14 shots on target to Erskine's 3. 
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Flying Fleet began Conference Carolinas play on Wednesday when they host Emmanuel College (0-2) at 4:30 p.m. The Fleet have won the previous three meetings, including 2-0 win on the road last season.
