HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Erskine received the opening kickoff and
Bryce Jeffcoat marched the Fleet offense straight down the field, starting his afternoon completing 4 of his first 5 passes for 52 yards on the opening drive before
Kevon Catoe punched it into the endzone to give Erskine a 7-0 lead. The Fleet got the ball back just over two minutes later and doubled their lead on a 58-yard touchdown from Jeffcoat to
Jahrique Isaiah. Moments later
Jamari Smith picked off the UFTL quarterback and set up Erskine with 1st and goal.
Rashad Luckey carried the ball on the next two plays, the second of which resulted in another Erskine touchdown. The ensuing extra point was blocked and returned by Fort Lauderdale to make it a 20-2 game. On the next possession,
Jeremiah Jennings recovered a fumble inside the Eagles' own 5-yard line before Luckey found the endzone again a few plays later, making it a 27-2 game.
Second Quarter:
On the first play of the second quarter,
Korey Besse connected with
Zion Walker for a 34-yard touchdown as the Fleet added to their commanding lead. The Fleet defense recorded a pair of sacks on the next possession as they continued to stifle the UFTL offense. Meanwhile, Erskine kept the offense in rhythm as they marched down the field and scored another touchdown as
Kaavon Parker punched it in from a yard out. On the Fleet's next possession, Jeffcoat found Isaiah again, this time for a 32-yard touchdown, extending Erskine's lead to 49-2. UFTL went three-and-out on their next possession, and the game was called at the 5:46 mark of the quarter as Fort Lauderdale did not have enough available linemen to continue.
