THE SERIES
The Crusaders hold a slim 34-29 advantage in the all-time series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Coming off seven consecutive wins, Erskine stayed hot with a three-run first inning behind a two-run home run from
Christian Rivera and a
Gregory Sanders RBI double. But, Belmont Abbey answered with a five-run second inning to take a 5-3 lead. However, the lead was short lived as a
Dalton Boyd leadoff single followed by a
Kane Fisher walk set the stage for Sanders again, and he delivered, launching a go-ahead, three-run home run over the right field fence to put Erskine back in front, 6-5.
Allan Saathoff kept the Crusaders off the board in the bottom half of the third but the hosts scored a run in the fourth to draw level and another run in the fifth to take a 7-6 lead. Belmont Abbey added another in the seventh before breaking it wide open with a seven-spot in the eighth as they took Game 1 of the series by a score of 15-6.
THE PLAYER
Gregory Sanders was 2-for-4 at the plate with 4 RBIs, including a go-ahead, three-run home run in the third inning.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine and Belmont Abbey wrap up their weekend series with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon, starting at noon.
