HOW IT HAPPENED
The No. 10 seed in the tournament, Erskine, was plagued by a slow start in a single elimination play-in round game against No. 7 seed UNC Pembroke. The Braves scored in the first inning and added two more runs in the third, leading 3-0. But, starting pitcher Kaley Ingle, helped herself at the plate for the Fleet with a two-run home run in the fourth inning that got Erskine on the board and cut the deficit to just one run. UNC Pembroke scored in the bottom half of the fourth to make it a 4-2 game heading into the sixth. But, a patient approach proved beneficial to the Fleet in the top of the sixth inning as Erskine batters drew five walks in the frame with Aly Salois and Faith Belue's free passes driving in runs that tied the game at 4. Ingle set down the Braves in order in the bottom half of the sixth and Erskine had the go-ahead run on base through a Braves' error but could scratch across the run. In the bottom of the seventh, UNC Pembroke led off with a single before a double to center field scored the winning run, as Erskine was defeated in the Conference Carolinas Tournament opening round, 5-4.

THE PLAYER
Kyndall Chandler was a 1-for-3 at the plate with a fourth-inning triple in hte middle of the Erskine lineup.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine's 2022 season came to an end on Thursday as the Fleet will now turn their attention to the off-season and preparations for the 2023 campaign. Erskine will lose some key senior starters, but also are in line to return numerous freshmen who played big roles for the Fleet this year.
