THE SERIES
Erskine still leads the all-time series 14-9-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Erskine offense came flying out of the gates as
Kane Fisher and
Cal Bocchino each delivered two-RBI base hits in the very first inning.
Dalton Boyd added an RBI single in the second inning before Bocchino doubled him home. Moments later,
Tariq Bacon launched a two-run home run for his fifth big fly of the year as the Fleet held a resounding 8-0 lead after just an inning and a half. Wingate got on the board in the bottom of the second but an
Armando Becerra sacrifice fly gave Erskine a 9-1 lead after three innings. But, the reigning Division II National Championships came roaring to life in the middle innings as they scored the final 13 runs of the game to steal a heartbreaker from the Fleet, 14-9.
THE PLAYER
Cal Bocchino was 3-for-5 at the plate and had 3 RBIs and two runs scored after just two innings to help the Fleet jump out to an early lead.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine has its final home regular season series of the year this weekend when they take on Southern Wesleyan University (10-30, 2-19 CC) for a three-game set, starting Friday with a doubleheader at 11:00 a.m. The Warriors won 3 of 4 against the Fleet last season.
