HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1: Erskine 8-7 Limestone
Limestone took advantage of an Erskine error to score twice in the top of the first inning, but the Fleet flipped the script in the bottom half of the inning, forcing a couple of Limestone errors to score
Sydney McInnis and make it a 2-1 Saints lead after one inning. Limestone extended their lead with three runs in the top of the third, but Erskine wasted no time chipping away as an
Aly Salois run-scoring single made it a 5-2 game. After
Kaley Ingle struck out the side in the top of the fifth, Erskine threatened at the plate as
Kelci Brown led off the inning reaching on another Saints error. A couple of walks loaded the bases for Salois, who ripped a sizzling, line-drive grand slam to straightaway center field and gave the Fleet their first lead, 6-5. Limestone answered right back with a two-run home run in the top of the sixth to go back in front, 7-6. But, again the Fleet responded. After surrendering the go-ahead home run in the top half of the inning, Ingle led off the bottom half with a towering home run to left field to tie the game.
Faith Belue followed with a walk before Brown and McInnis got on base to load the bases as Erskine looked to regain the lead. And
Kenzie Eagleman, who came off the bench earlier in the game, delivered with what would be a game-winning single as Ingle set down the Saints in order in the seventh inning and gave Erskine an 8-7 win.
GAME 2: Limestone 8-4 Erskine
Fresh off a late rally to win Game 1, the Erskine bats picked up right where they led off as a
Kyndall Chandler sacrifice fly put the Fleet ahead 1-0 in the very first inning. Limestone scored twice in the second inning to go in front but it was short-lived as the Fleet slugged their way back on top behind solo home runs from
Faith Belue and
Maddie Ingram in the second and third inning, respectively. Limestone tallied a pair of RBI singles in the fifth inning as they edged their way back into the lead, 4-3. But, Chandler ripped a no-doubt solo home run to right field to tie the game at 4 in the bottom half of the fifth. Both teams went quietly in the sixth, but a grand slam from the Saints in the seventh gave the visitors the lead for good as Erskine lost Game 2, 8-4.
THE PLAYER
Aly Salois crushed a go-ahead grand slam in the fifth inning of Game 1 as part of a five-RBI performance, while
Maddie Ingram had a pair of hits, including a go-ahead home run in the third inning of Game 2.
