THE SERIES
Erskine has still doubled up the Tornado in wins in the series, 20-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After Erskine starter
Allan Saathoff worked around a bit of a first-inning jam, the Fleet offense built on the momentum as
Kyle Marti led off the bottom half of the inning with a seeing-eye single to right field before stealing second and coming around to score moments later on an
Armando Becerra single to give the Fleet an early 1-0 lead. King hit a two-run home run to its first lead in the top of the third inning, making it a 2-1 game. But the lead was short-lived as
Cal Kryska immediately got into scoring position with a leadoff infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error on the play. Marti followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Kryska to third and Becerra drove him in with a sacrifice fly as Erskine used "small ball" to tie the game at 2. But, the Fleet offense was held in check through the middle innings while the Tornado opened up another lead with three runs in the sixth inning to go in front, 5-2.
Kane Fisher hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning as Erskine attempted to start a late rally but it came up short as King took the series opener, 5-4.
THE PLAYER
Kane Fisher had just one hit, but it was a towering, opposite field home run in the eighth inning to make it a one-run game. Fisher has now homered in each of Erskine's last two games.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine and King wrap up their weekend series with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon, with Game 1 scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. at Grier Field.
