THE SERIES
Queens has won two straight meetings between the teams this season to tie the all-time series at four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Erskine opened the scoring in the top of the first inning as an errant pickoff attempt and a
Cal Kryska RBI single gave the Fleet a 2-0 lead after just half an inning. But, Queens scored a run in their half of the first, and plated three more runs in both the second and third innings as they opened up a 7-2 lead.
Armando Becerra got a run back for Erskine in the fifth inning on an RBI groundout before another Queens error allowed two more runs to score in the following inning as Erskine climbed back to make it a 7-5 game. But, the Royals had another three-run inning in the bottom half of the sixth as they regained a cushioned lead, 10-5. Queens added another run in the eighth inning before
Christian Rivera launched his third big fly of the season with a solo shot in the ninth, but Erskine was defeated, 11-6.
THE PLAYER
Fresh off a two-RBI performance in an upset win over No. 1 Wingate,
Christian Rivera tallied two more hits, including a solo home run in the ninth inning.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine returns home and continues conference play this weekend when they welcome Conference Carolinas newcomers, UNC Pembroke (6-4, 3-0 CC) for a three-game set beginning Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Grier Field. The Braves hold a narrow 3-2 advantage over the Fleet all-time, but Friday will be the first meeting between the teams in nearly seven years.
