Erskine Men's Volleyball | Barton Rallies Past Fleet For Five Set Win

WILSON, N.C. – The Erskine College men's volleyball team (9-13, 4-8 CC) lost to Barton College (9-8, 7-5 CC) in five sets, 25-19, 21-25, 13-25, 25-22, 15-13 in Wilson Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

THE SERIES
With the win, the Bulldogs move two games ahead of the Fleet in the all-time series, leading 13-10.

THE MATCH
Set 1: The Bulldogs gifted the Fleet the opening point off a bad set, but then scored the next six points to take the early lead. The Fleet came back to tie it at 10-10 and even led by as many as three in the opening set (17-14), before an extended 11-2 run by Barton closed off the set 25-19 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Set 2: The Fleet opened with first point of the set and never trailed after it was tied at 15-15. They gained control with a 6-1 run with the set tied at 15 and an attack error then a kill by Edge Austin leveled the match at a set apiece, 25-21.
 
Set 3: The quickest set of the day occurred in the third as the Fleet wasted little time earning a 25-13 set win.
 
Set 4: On the heels of a quick set, came set four which favored the Bulldogs 25-22, but not without a battle. The teams traded the first six points and neither led by more than three in the frame.
 
Set 5: With the match tied at two sets each, the Bulldogs rode the momentum to a 15-13 set and match win. The Fleet opened with the first two points. Barton's 13-10 lead vanished, but the Bulldogs received consecutive kills by Adrian Iglesias for the win.

THE PLAYER
Kacper Rybarczyk recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs. He also had all the Fleet's service aces (3) and a pair of blocks.
 
THE TEAM
The Fleet hit .281 (59 K / 21 E / 135 TA) for the match including a match best .367 in the fourth set.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet return to Belk Arena to host Emmanuel College (8-12, 5-8 CC) in their final regular season game of the season.
 
First serve with the Lions is set for 7:30 p.m. on April 6.
