THE SERIES
The Fleet now lead the all-time series 16-6 and have won six of the last seven games at King.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1: Starting pitching dominated the third game of the weekend series as Drew Moore and
Landon Dennis exchanged zeroes for much of the afternoon. Both starters retired the side in order in each of the first two innings, and Dennis worked around a pair of singles for a scoreless third inning. Dennis allowed a baserunner in each of the next two frames as well but continued to keep King off the board and eventually Erskine found a breakthrough. In the sixth inning,
Livan Reinoso worked a leadoff walk and
Dalton Reeves ripped a double to right center field, but the go-ahead was thrown out at home. However,
Dayan Reinoso followed with a single back up the middle as the Fleet finally broke the deadlock and led 1-0 after six innings. The Tornado tallied a hit in each of the final two innings, but Dennis worked out of trouble and finished off a complete game shutout in Game 1.
Â
GAME 2:Â After a slow first game, the Erskine offense wasted no time getting going in Game 2.
Dalton Boyd hit a solo home run in the very first inning. King tied the game in the third inning, but the Fleet lineup exploded in the middle innings. In the fourth inning,
Cody Forster hit a three-run blast and
Dayan Reinoso launched a grand slam in the fifth as the Fleet broke open an 8-1. The Tornado rallied back, getting within two runs, but more late-inning insurance helped seal an Erskine win.
Cal Bocchino and
Tariq Bacon had run-scoring hits in the eighth inning and Reinoso added an RBI double in the ninth to cap a monster Game 2 and finish off a 12-6 Erskine victory.
THE PLAYER
GAME 1:Â Landon Dennis threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just five hits, and surrendered no walks while striking out a batter.
GAME 2:Â
Dayan Reinoso was 3-for-5, including a fifth-inning grand slam and an RBI double in the ninth inning.
Â
Reinoso hit .471 (8-for-17) for the weekend and drove in 10 runs in the four-game series.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Erskine returns home next weekend for a four-game series against Chowan University (3-20, 0-20 CC). The series begins with a doubleheader on Friday at 12:00 p.m. The Fleet earned a three-game home sweep over Chowan in their first ever meeting back in March 2019.
