THE SERIES
The Fleet have now won all five meetings against the Hawks, outscoring Chowan 73 to 16 in those five meetings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1: The Fleet wasted no time getting on the board and quickly gave starting pitcher
Allan Saathoff a convincing lead. Erskine scored three runs in the bottom of the first capped by a
Dayan Reinoso opposite-field two-run home run and
Livan Reinoso and
Drew Yniesta had consecutive run-scoring doubles as the Fleet opened up an early 6-0 lead. In the fourth inning,
Livan Reinoso added a two-run home run of his own to extend the lead to 8-0. Chowan got a run back in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly but the Fleet continued to pour it on in the middle innings.
Cal Bocchino and
Dontae Wade both picked up RBIs in the bottom half of the fifth and
Dayan Reinoso and
Peniel Sabino each drove in a pair of runs in the sixth to balloon the Erskine lead to 14-1. Saathoff allowed just one run over five innings of work and
Parker Jefferson and
Parker Cassell both threw solid innings out of the bullpen as Erskine cruised to a 14-2 win in Game 1.
GAME 2: And the Fleet bats stayed hot in Game 2 as well, starting when
Kane Fisher and
Trevor Lesane crossed a home plate in the second inning to put the Fleet up 2-0. Chowan, though, answered back with a four-spot in their half of the third and took its first lead of the day at 4-2. The Fleet clawed back thanks to an RBI single from
Dayan Reinoso in the third inning and
Dontae Wade reached on an infield single to tie the game at four after innings. Again, the Fleet offense was explosive in the middle innings. Lesane and Bocchino both had RBI hits in the fifth inning to put Erskine back in front, 6-4. In the sixth,
Cody Forster scored on an error,
Kane Fisher roped a two-run double and Lesane tallied an RBI single of his own to cap a four-run bottom of the sixth inning. And Erskine was not done. After
Toshawn Drew retired Chowan in order, the Fleet broke Game 2 wide open with an eight-run seventh inning.
Drew Yniesta had a bases-clearing double and
Dalton Reeves capped the big inning with a two-run blast to straightaway right field as Erskine opened up an 18-4 lead. Chowan scored once in the eighth, but Erskine kept their foot on the gas petal with a two-run double from
Nick McAlister and an
Armando Becerra sacrifice fly to put the finishing touches on a 21-5 win in Game 2.
THE PLAYER
GAME 1: Dayan Reinoso was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four driven in. Reinoso launched a two-run home run in the first inning as the Fleet never looked back in a Game 1 win.
GAME 2: Game 2 was a complete offensive game as 11 Erskine players tallied a hit and everyone in the Fleet lineup contributed to a 21-run outburst in the back half of the doubleheader.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet wrap up the regular season with senior day on Friday afternoon against these same Chowan Hawks. First pitch of Game 1 is set for 12:00 p.m. while the senior day festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m.
