BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Erskine College women's soccer team (2-5-2, 1-4-2 CC) defeated eight-seed King University (1-5-2, 1-4-2 CC) 2-1 thanks to an 84th minute game-winning goal from Katie Cauble at Parks Field on Wednesday night. THE SERIES
That was Erskine's second win in nine meetings with the Tornado, but the Fleet are unbeaten in their last three matches against King.

THE MATCH
Erskine outshot the Tornado nine to five in the first half, but it was the hosts who scored the opening goal when Anya Gross found the back of the net in the 34th minute to give King a 1-0 lead. The Fleet tallied three shots on goal in the opening half, but all were saved by King goalkeeper Lucy Barrientos. However, after 160 minutes without a goal against the Tornado in 2021, substitute Carlie Branham got the breakthrough as her 42nd minute goal leveled the score a 1 going into the half. The second half was evenly fought statistically as both sides tallied seven shots. Erskine left it late, but in the 84th minute, Kelsey Tyson found Katie Cauble and the senior slotted it home to seal a 2-1 victory in Erskine's final match of pool play in the 2021 Conference Carolinas Tournament.

THE PLAYER
Katie Cauble totaled a team-high four shots, and while only one attempt was on target, it was the game-winning goal in the 84th minute.

THE TEAM
Erskine outshot the Tornado 16 to 12 and had a narrow six to four edge in shots on target. The Fleet also had four corner kicks to King's one.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The 9th seeded Fleet and top-seed North Greenville both have three points atop Pool A, but North Greenville has a match remaining and slim advantage in goal differential. Erskine needs King to win at North Greenville on Sunday by a scoreline that favors the Fleet from a tiebreaker standpoint.
