THE SERIES
After the Fleet's nine game winning streak over the Crusaders came to an end last season, Belmont Abbey is now building a streak of their own having won the last four in the all-time series.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:Â The Crusaders offense was ready from the start as they scored twice in the opening frame. A leadoff walk, a single placed and then an error loaded the bases for Morgan Smith who brought in two with a double to center field. Belmont Abbey scored once more in the second before exploding for seven runs in the fifth inning. Erskine received a leadoff single from
Katie Hunter, but could not muster addition offense as they fell 10-0 in the run shortened game one.
Â
GAME 2:Â Belmont Abbey picked up right where they left off in game one, by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.
Sydney McInnis homered in the bottom half of the inning to give the Fleet their first run of the day. The Crusaders put one past the plate in the second to lead 4-1. After Belmont Abbey doubled their score in the fourth, Erskine plated a single run in the bottom half of the inning when
Shi Cain walked to bring in
Chloe Hamilton. BAC extended its lead to 9-2 after five innings before the Fleet made a final push. In the sixth, the Fleet scored three runs, but could not come all the way back, falling 9-5.
Â
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet welcome Conference Carolinas foes Lees-McRae College (3-13, 0-2 CC) on Friday and King University (7-3, 2-0 CC) on Saturday for four games this weekend.
