THE SERIES
The Fleet took the 10th all-time meeting this afternoon and now hold a 6-3-1 lead versus the Warriors. After dismantling Southern Wesleyan 7-1 in Due West, last season the Fleet have now won three of the past four meetings with the Warriors.
THE MATCH
The Fleet found the back of the net quickly and often in Sunday's rout of the Warriors. All five of Erskine's first half goals were put behind Warriors' keeper Brandon Trimby within the matches first 16 minutes. To get things started,
Dennis Cole landed a pass from
Carlos Portas to put the Fleet ahead 1-0 in the fifth minute. The duo traded places nearly seven minutes later, as Portas scored at 11:11 to give the Fleet an early 2-0 advantage. A flurry of goals from
Albert Portas (2) and
Dennis Cole within a three-minute span strengthened the Erskine lead to 5-0, a score they'd take into the halftime break. Erskine enjoyed a comfortable 26-3 margin in shots taken in the opening 45 minutes, with 14 attempts being on target. The Warriors did manage to test, Fleet keeper
Juan Villegas once in the opening half a comfortable save in the lower left corner for Villegas. On the first run of the second half the Fleet expanded their lead once again.
Tyler Nichols dribbled a ball to the left of the keeper and found the back of the net for an unassisted goal to kick things off. At 52:12,
Tim Boeckstaens connected for the Fleet's seventh goal.
Emil Strengenes scored twice to finish off the day for the Fleet in their 9-0 victory.
