Erskine Men's Volleyball | Fleet Swept at Limestone

DUE WEST, S.C.  – The Erskine College men's volleyball team (5-3, 2-1 CC) earned its second consecutive conference win beating King University (4-4, 1-2 CC) in five sets, 15-25, 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 15-11 in Belk Arena on Friday night.

THE SERIES
Limestone swept the season series after winning in Due West last Friday in three sets as well. The Saints have won seven straight against Erskine and lead the all-time series 12-7.

THE MATCH
Set 1: Erskine led Set 1 for some of the early stages and a Kacper Rybarczyk kill gave the Fleet a 10-8 lead. Limestone rallied to take the lead late in the set and won the final three points to win the opening set 25-21.
 
Set 2: The second set was also a back-and-forth affair for awhile with both teams leading at multiple times. But, the Saints again pulled away in the middle stages. Jacob Whyte and Edge Austin each had two kills toward the end of Set 2, but it was not enough as Limestone took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-18 victory in Set 2.
 
Set 3: Limestone used that momentum to score the first five points of the third set. The Saints had another 5-0 scoring run later to take a 16-6 lead in Set 3. Whyte tallied a team-high five kills in the set, but Limestone cruised to a 25-16 win in Set 3 and finish off a sweep of the Fleet.
 
THE PLAYER
Jacob Whyte had a team-high 11 kills and hit .276 (11 K / 3 E / 29 TA) in the match. Whyte also tallied an ace, a block, and two digs for the Fleet.
 
THE TEAM
Erskine hit just .080 (27 K / 20 E / 87 TA) in the match. The Fleet produced two aces, five blocks and 25 digs.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet travel to Belmont, N.C. for their first road match in Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday night against Belmont Abbey at 7:30 p.m.
 
Erskine leads the all-time series 9-7, but the Crusaders have won the last six meetings.
