BELMONT, N.C. – The Erskine College women's basketball team (0-10, 0-9 CC) was defeated by conference-leading Belmont Abbey College (13-2, 9-1 CC) by a score of 78-32 in the Wheeler Center on Wednesday night.

THE SERIES
The Crusaders are 21-9 all-time against Erskine and have won three straight in the series. Erskine's last win over Belmont Abbey was in February 2019.

THE GAME
The Conference Carolinas preseason favorite came flying out of the gates on Wednesday night with a 7-0 run to start the game. An Anzya Cook jumper got the Fleet on the board, but it was the only made field goal by Erskine in the first quarter. Belmont Abbey outscored the Fleet 26-3 in the opening quarter and never looked back. The second quarter was a defensive struggle as no points were scored until an Amaya Richardson three-pointer broke the deadlock with 5:14 to go in the first half. Carmen Chandler added a basket and Chelsey Eison converted on a pair of free throws toward the end of the second quarter, but the Crusaders took a 35-10 lead into halftime. In the second half, Anzya Cook tallied six points and Megan Jones added five of her own, but the early deficit proved to be too much as Belmont Abbey cruised to a 78-32 victory.

THE PLAYER
Anzya Cook scored a team-high eight points on 3-6 shooting from the field and was a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line. Cook also dished out an assist and tallied a block for the Fleet.

THE TEAM
Erskine shot 12-46 (21.6%) from the field and was 3-23 (13%) from beyond the arc. The Fleet were outrebounded 46-20 in the loss.

WHAT'S NEXT 
Erskine is back in action at home against Converse College (3-8, 2-8 CC) on Saturday. Game time has yet to be determined. The Valkyries defeated the Fleet in Spartanburg by a score of 64-55 back on January 25.
