DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine College men's basketball team (1-8, 1-5 CC) faced off against the North Greenville University Crusaders (3-4, 2-3 CC) in a Conference Carolinas matchup and one of the wildest and most bizarre games you have ever seen. The game started very evenly matched, with both teams trading blows and countering whatever the other brought their way. The score was practically even the entire first half, until in the last 5 minutes of the first half, the Fleet put together a strong push and took a 12 point lead headed into the half.
The second half began with more of the same for the Fleet up until the 14:31 mark, holding a 9 point lead, during a possession on the North Greenville side of the floor, 5 separate players slipped almost all at once on a wet spot on the floor. Play was stopped and it was determined that condensation had begun to form on the floor because of the weather conditions outside. The officials told both teams to head for the locker rooms for 10 minutes to see if the game crew were able to fix the playing area to make it safe for play. After those 10 minutes, play was restarted after a 5 minute warmup.
After play resumed, the game turned tides, and despite a technical foul on a North Greenville player and 2 Crusaders fouling out, North Greenville mounted a comeback on the Fleet that eventually resulted the Fleet losing 81-78.
De'Lanyc Shuler fired a shot at the buzzer from deep three point range to try and tie the game, but it came up short and slightly off target.
THE PLAYER
Jaylen Prioleau and
Kaleb Brooks both contributed a double double to the Fleet effort. Prioleau led all scorers in the game with 21 points and also added 14 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks. Brooks scored 18 points and contributed 10 rebounds while also going 6-6 from the free throw line.
THE TEAM
Erskine shot 23-68 (33.8%) from the floor and was 10-34 (29.4%) from beyond the arc. The Fleet shot 22-29 (75.9%) from the foul line in the game.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet will go on the road to face Appalachian State University on Monday, December 13th.
