GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Erskine women's basketball team continued exhibition play leading up to the 2021 season with a 73-44 defeat to Furman University on Tuesday night.

THE SERIES
Tonight's game was the second ever meeting between the Fleet and the Paladins, with Furman winning the first matchup in 2010.

THE GAME
Erskine began the game on a strong note, trailing just 11-9 at the first media timeout, as Raina Hall scored the first four for the Fleet, folllowed by a layup and a three by Osha Makerson. But, Furman closed the opening quarter on a 13-4 run.

Kitara Henry opened the second quarter with a three-pointer, but Furman went on a 17-1 run to extend the Paladins lead to 24 points, and the Fleet trailed 48-23 at the half.

Megan Jones added a pair of threes in the second half, but it was not enough as Furman kept the Fleet at arms length as Erskine fell by a final score of 73-44.

THE PLAYER
Osha Makerson led the way for the Fleet with 14 points on 6-17 shooting from the field as well as four rebounds, two assists, and a steal. 

THE TEAM
Erskine went 15-53 from the field (28.3%) including 6-26 from beyond the arc (23.1%). The Fleet forced 23 Furman turnovers, and have totaled 20 or more turnovers forced in each of their first two games against Division I opponents. Erskine had 16 bench points including 5 from Henry and Carmen Chandler.

WHAT'S NEXT 
The Fleet begin its 16-game Conference Carolinas schedule on January 13 when they visit Converse College.
 
The Fleet's home opener is three days later on January 16 when they host Southern Wesleyan University at 2 PM in Belk Arena.
