Erskine Women's Basketball | Southern Wesleyan Rallies Past Fleet

DUE WEST, S.C. – The Erskine women's basketball team (0-1, 0-1 CC) lost its home opener, 62-57, to Conference Carolinas foe Southern Wesleyan University (1-1, 1-1 CC) in Belk Arena on Tuesday afternoon.

THE SERIES
Southern Wesleyan's earned its fourth win in the last five contests over the Flying Fleet. Erskine leads the all-time series 10-7.

THE GAME
In the opening quarter, the Fleet were led by Osha Makerson who scored seven of the 13 points helping Erskine to a 13-11 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter saw the Fleet's offense nearly maintain its 40% shooting clip (7-18) it held in the first, limiting the Warriors offense to just 11 points to take a 31-22 lead at the half. Out of the break, the Fleet's offense slowed up just a bit. Through three quarters the Fleet added to their lead once again, holding a 48-38 advantage. However, the fourth quarter belonged to the Warriors who erased a 10-point deficit, outscoring the Fleet 24-9 in the final 10 minutes, to win 62-57.

THE PLAYER
Osha Makerson produced a game-high 23 points on 9-24 shooting from the field. The reigning Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year logged a team-high 39 minutes where she pulled down three rebounds, collected three assists, and four steals.

THE TEAM
Erskine shot 21-60 from the field (35%) including 5-25 from beyond the arc (20%). The Fleet held the edge in fast break points, outscoring the Warriors 9-2. The rebound battle was won by Southern Wesleyan by one, 43-42.

WHAT'S NEXT 
The Fleet take the hardwood tomorrow evening when they travel to Emmanuel College (5-0, 3-0) for a 5:00 PM tip in Franklin Springs, Ga.
 
The Lions hold a 7-5 advantage in the all-time series including earning victories in the last four meetings. Erskine's last victory over Emmanuel came with a 76-67 result in Franklin Springs on February 23, 2018.
