Fleet Drop Two to Newberry

Erskine's women's softball team traveled to Newberry, SC, on Tuesday afternoon to play in a double header against non-conference opponent Newberry College. The Wolves took both games, 9-5 and 8-0.

Game 1: The Fleet's first run of the game would come in the third inning when Allison Neely with connect on a pitch for a homerun to right center field. Neeley's home run would also bring in Antley, giving the Fleet two runs on the inning. In the top of the fourth, Shi Cain hit a home run of her own through right field, followed be a Faith Belue home run to center field. The Fleet earned three runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game 5-5. A strong sixth inning from Newberry would add four more runs to their score and give them a 9-5 win over the Fleet.

Game 2: Kelci Brown put together a strong batting performance for the Fleet in the second game, batting 2-3. Ellison Garren went 1-2, and the two of them would combine for the Fleet's only three hits of the game. Brown's first hit came in the third inning with a single to short stop, but the Fleet would be unable to bring her home. The fourth inning saw Garren hit a single through the left side, but the Wolves managed to close out the inning with two Fleet runners left on base. Brown got her second hit of the day in the top of the fifth with another single to short stop, but with the Fleet once again unable to bring her home, the Wolves would take the game 8-0.

The Fleet will remain in out of conference play as they travel to Greenville, TN to play a double header against Tusculum University on March 12.
