Flying Fleet baseball traveled to Marion, NC, on Tuesday afternoon to take on non-conference opponent Mars Hill. The Fleet won the game 9-8, boosting them to a 16-8 overall record.

After forcing Mars Hill to leave two runners on base in the top of the first, the Fleet were the first to put a run on the board in the bottom half of the inning. Livan Reinoso's single to left field brought in teammate Drew Yniesta for a run, giving the Fleet a 1-0 lead. Mars Hill would tie the score in the second with a homerun to centerfield in the top of the inning and closed out the bottom half of the inning in three straight Erskine batters. Erskine would be next on the board in the bottom of the third. With bases loaded, Livan Reinoso hit a double to centerfield for two RBIs. The Fleet's next batter grounded into a double play as Yniesta ran home to give the Fleet a 4-1 lead after the third inning. Mars Hill responded, posting a combined seven runs over the fourth and fifth inning. Down 8-4, the Fleet would earn two runs in the bottom of the fifth and another three in the bottom of the eighth to go up 9-8. Down one run in the top of the ninth, Mars Hill managed to get a player into scoring position with just one out. Erskine pitcher Zach Farmer struck out the last two batters to give the Fleet a 9-8 victory.

Livan Reinoso hit 3-4 and earned four RBIs for the Fleet. Zach Carter and Cal Bochino each went 2-4 on the day, with Carter adding one RBI and Bochino scoring two runs for the Fleet.

The Fleet return to Conference Carolinas play on March 13-14 as they play a three game series against North Greenville University. The two teams will play one game on Friday afternoon and compete in a double-header on Saturday to finish out the series.
