Fleet Baseball traveled to Gaffney, SC to take on Conference Carolina's opponent Limestone in a three game series on Friday and Saturday afternoon. The Fleet won the first game 9-6 on Friday afternoon. Saturday started strong for the Fleet with a 10-3 victory in game two but they dropped the third game later that day 17-16.
Game 1 (Fri): The Fleet got on the board early when Drew Yneista hit a single to third base that brought in teammate Gregory Sanders. The second inning saw the Fleet increase their lead with six more runs. Singles from both Xander Vizcarrondo and Dayan Reinoso each added a run. They were followed by a double through left field from Cal Bochino and three more runs before Limestone would close out the inning. Erskine would continue to push their lead by adding two more runs in the fourth, but wouldn't score again for the remainder of the game. Limestone got a later start with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and added one additional run in both the eighth and ninth inning. The Saint's late push wouldn't be enough to overcome the Fleet, and Erskine would take the 9-6 victory.
Game 2 (Sat): The Saints started stronger in game two of the series and posted three runs in the top of the first inning. Erskine wouldn't earn their first run until the fourth inning, where a single from Gregory Sanders and a homer from Drew Yniesta would give the Fleet a 4-1 lead. Erskine would be the next to put a run on the board in the fourth inning when a double through left center from Zach Carter would increase the Fleet's lead. Four more runs in the fifth would and a home run from Livan Reinoso in the top of the sixth would secure the 10-3 win for the Fleet.
Game 3 (Sat): Game three of the series was a high scoring game for both teams. Erskine struck first with three runs in the first inning. A double from Cory Everett and a single from Trevor Lesane put three runs on the board for Erskine. A single, double, and Everett's home run put five additional runs on the board for the Fleet. The Saints managed to get on the board in the second inning with two runs of their own. The Saints and the Fleet would exchange runs for the remainder of the contest. Heading in to the ninth inning down 17-13, the Fleet would put together another strong inning. Doubles from Sanders and L. Reinoso would give the Fleet three runs to narrow the lead to one run, Limestone closed out the inning before Erskine could bring in their last runner, and the Saints took the third game 17-16.
The Fleet head to Myrtle Beach on Monday, March 2, to play a double header against the College of Staten Island.
