Darkness forced the ending of an exciting matchup between the Erskine Flying Fleet and the Wingate Bulldogs. At the bottom of the 10th ending, umpires ended the game in a 5-5 tie.The game will be completed on Wednesday, April 15th when the two teams meet in Wingate, NC.
Zach Carter started the Fleet off with a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Bulldogs quickly evened the score in the bottom of the second. After two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs took the lead by one run in the fifth, but RBIs from both
Cal Bochino and
Xander Vizzcorando in the bottom of the sixth gave Erskine a 5-2 lead. The Fleet held that lead until the ninth inning, where the Bulldogs posted 3 runs to tie the game, forcing extra innings. In the tenth, Wingate was forced to leave a man on base but would hold Erskine to zero runs in the bottom of the inning. After a scoreless 10th inning, the umpires met and decided to abandon the game due to darkness, leaving the score in a 5-5 tie. The two teams will meet again on April 15 in Wingate, NC.
The Flying Fleet will be back at Grier Field on Friday, February 7th in a double header against Mars Hill.
