Flying Fleet baseball stepped out of Conference Carolina's play on Tuesday afternoon to play Mars Hill University in Mars Hill, NC. The Fleet took the game 12-3, boosting their overall record to 8-7.
The Fleet came out swinging with a strong performance in the top of the first inning. Erskine earned five runs before Mars Hill was able to pick of Everett at second base for their first out of the inning. The Fleet were able to get one more run in before the final two outs, ending the top of the first 6-0 and three men left on base. Mars Hill was able to cut into the lead in the bottom half of the inning, earning two runs on a double to right center, but Erskine closed out the inning with a four-run lead. The Fleet would manage to earn two runs in the second and two more in the third before giving up another run to Mars Hill. Up 10-3, the Fleet would add their final two runs in the top of the fifth and keep Mars Hill from earning another run for the remainder of the contest.
Gregory Sanders went 3-4 with two singles and a double on the day. Livan Reinoso earned 3 RBIs during the game, two off of a home run in the first inning and one on a double in the fifth. Dayan Reinoso also earned 3 RBIs, two off of a home run in the first inning and his third off a single in the third. Xander Vizcarrondo went 3-4 in the contest, while Drew Yniesta hit 2-4 with 3 RBIs.
The Fleet will travel to Hickory, NC, to take on Lenoir-Rhyne University on Wednesday, February 26.
