Saturday night, in the final game of the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational, the Flying Fleet traveled to Greenwood, SC, to take on Concord University in a late night matchup under the lights. The Fleet picked up their first win of the season with the 7-6 victory.
Concord came out swinging with a homerun in the first inning and added another run in the top of the second with a little help from an Erskine error. But the Fleet came back in the bottom of the second with two runs of their own, tying the score 2-2. The Fleet kept pushing in the third inning, when
Anna Taylor,
Taylor Antley, and
Ryleigh Davis all managed to bring in runners. Up 5-2, Concord would manage to bring the score back to even only to let the Fleet pull again in the bottom of this sixth inning when Taylor was able to once again bring in another runner. Concord put together a strong seventh inning with two runs, evening the score at 6-6. In the bottom of the seventh, the Fleet managed to get bases loaded when
Shi Cain flied out and was able to bring in
Kelci Brown for the winning run, ending the game 7-6.
Ryleigh Davis and
Ellison Garren both went 2-3 on the day and
Anna Taylor went 3-4.
Hannah Houge pitched the whole game and earned her first win of the season.
The Fleet travel to Augusta, GA for a double header on February 19th.Â
