The Fleet dominated in a two day, four game series against Clarion University. The Fleet manage to sweep the Golden Eagles, goin 4-0 on the series and boosting their overall record to 6-5.
Game 1 (Friday): The Fleet came out strong in their first game against Clarion with six runs in the first inning. The Fleet managed to get bases loaded early in the first when
Trevor Lesane hit a single through right field bringing in Vizzcorando for their first run, followed by Everett getting walked to bring in
Gregory Sanders for their second. Bases still loaded,
Chase Crouch hit a Grand Slam and rung up four more runs for The Fleet, making their first inning lead 6-0. The Fleet came out strong again in the fourth adding another four runs before giving up seven runs in the top of the fifth, bringing Clarion within two runs. An additional run from Erskine in the bottom of the seventh would be the last of the game, giving Erskine the 11-8 win.
Game 2 (Friday): The Fleet also took game two of the series with a 4-1 win. Clarion struck first this game with a single run in the top of the first, only to give up the lead in the bottom of the inning when Erskine's Livan Reinos connected on a homerun that also brought in
Gregory Sanders, who was on third base after a triple to right field. With a 2-1 lead, the Fleet would hold Clarion scoreless for the rest of the game and add an additional run to their lead in both the fourth and fifth innings.
Game 3 (Saturday): Reinoso doubled in the bottom of the first inning to bring in both Sanders and Vizzcorando for to RBIs. After a double from Lesane, Reinoso was brought in on Everett's ground out to give the Fleet a 3-0 start. Clarion began to chip away at the lead when they scored a single run in both the second and third, but the remaining innings would prove to be controlled by the Fleet, taking the game 14-2.
Livan Reinoso hit 4-4 with three RBIs and
Trevor Lesane hit 2-2. Vizzcorando also added 3 RBIs, and
Cal Bochino and
Asher Smith each tallied two RBIs for the Fleet.
Game 4 (Saturday): The Fleet again controlled the first inning in the fourth game of the series. Singles from Drew Yneista,
Zach Carter, and
Chase Crouch helped give the Fleet a 4-0 lead after the first inning. Clarion was next to strike in the top of the third, bringing in one run to cut the lead to 4-1. Scoring two additional runs in the fourth cut the Erskine lead to one but proved to be the last runs Clarion would score. After closing out the inning, pitcher
Deric Hanko would go on the give up only one more hit for the remainder of the game.
The Fleet will be back at Grier Field on Wednesday, February 19 to play Augusta University.
