Erskine Men's Soccer | Fleet Fall 2-1 to Campbellsville, Advance to NCCAA Semifinals on Friday

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Erskine College men's soccer team dropped its second NCCAA National Championship tournament match, 2-1 to Campbellsville University on Wednesday.
 
Although the Fleet dropped tonight's contest, they advance as the best second-place team into Friday's semifinals.

THE SERIES
Erskine and Campbellsville had never met for an official regular season contest prior to tonight.
 
THE MATCH
The Fleet played a goal behind for most of the match after allowing the Tigers to score at 42:44, or just under three minutes into the first half. The Tigers sustained their goal advantage at the break managing to outshoot the Fleet eight to two. With 7:40 remaining in the match, Fernando Gonzalez cut the Fleet deficit in half with an unassisted strike to give the Fleet life. The goal was the first time this season Campbellsville keeper, Jeremi Campagnolo had conceded a goal in four matches. The lone goal was not enough as the Tigers closed out the final minutes to secure a 2-1 victory.
 
WHAT THE RESULT MEANS
The Fleet (2-1) drop their first match of the fall campaign.

Campbellsville University (Ky.) wins Group C with six points and a +4 goal differential.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Fleet advance to the semifinals where they challenge tournament favorite #1 Bethel University on Friday evening.
 
Similar to Campbellsville, Bethel has not yet conceded in this tournament, outscoring Group A foes Bethesda University and Dallas Christian College by a combined 16-0.

Kickoff time is set for 5:00 PM.


NCCAA National Championship tournament matches are all being played at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida.
