Franklin Springs, GA – The Flying Fleet scored a run in the top of the 13
th inning to break a 5-5 tie and held on to win 6-5 in the second game of a Conference Carolinas double header and complete a three game sweep of Emmanuel Saturday afternoon.
Game One
The score would be scoreless through the first three innings, but in the fourth
Kyle Heiss would double and score on a single by
AJ Fabrizio to give Erskine the 1-0 lead. Emmanuel would score a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game up. Erskine would explode for six runs in the fifth and then add two more in the seventh to take the 9-1 victory.
Chaz Davey was 3-4 with two doubles and three RBI's, while
Sam Cothran, while Fabrizio was 2-3 with three runs driven in.
Chris Rave and
Tyler Phillips each added two hits for the Fleet.
Zack Bowers (6-1) threw a complete game allowing one run on five hits and striking out seven.
Game Two
Cothran would reach on an error to lead off the game and then scored on a double by Rave to give Erskine the early lead. The Lions would respond with a run in the first and one in the second to take a 2-1 lead. The Fleet would score four runs in the top of the fourth to regain the lead 5-2. Emmanuel would score two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game at five. The score would remain tied until the top of the 13
th when
Trevor Wood led off with a triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Cothran to give Erskine the lead.
Joe Johnson would retire the Lions in order to secure the win.
Chase Watts was 4-7 with a double and an RBI, while Rave was 3-5 with a double and RBI for the Fleet. Davey added three hits, while Phillips and Fabrizio each had two hits in the victory. Johnson (6-4) picked up the win allowing one run on three hits and striking out 13 in 8.2 innings of relief work.
