Due West, SC – The Erskine College Flying Fleet defeated the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors 76-71 tonight in Belk Arena. This Conference Carolinas victory is the Fleet's 5
th win in a row and moves them to 8-6 in conference play and 11-9 overall.
The first half was back and forth. Erskine had 25 possessions to SWU's 24. Erskine converted on 38.7% of their chances and SWU scored at an impressive 45.7% mark. SWU accumulated 11 offensive rebounds and 27 total rebounds. Erskine maintained a total of 15 rebounds overall.
Joby Glymph led the Fleet with 11 points and
Addison Holmes pitched in 8.
Erskine came out strong to start off the second half and turned a five-point deficit into a 15-point lead only seven minutes into the second half. Erskine tightened up their defense inside and made a couple baskets to gain a lead that they would never relinquish. SWU made a late run and got the lead trimmed to one, but late free throws by
Blake Maness and
Joby Glymph sealed the deal.
Erskine returns to the hardwood Thursday when they travel to Gaffney, SC to take on Limestone. The game time is set for 7:30.
