Due West – The Erskine College Flying Fleet escape with a win over the Crusaders of North Greenville 51-50. This win marks the Fleet's 6
th win in the last seven contests and also moves the Fleet to 6-9 overall; 6-4 in Conference Carolinas action.
The first half was highlighted by the defensive effort of the Fleet. Erskine forced 7 turnovers and held the Crusaders to 21 points on 25% shooting. Meanwhile, the Fleet were led by
Kristin Giles' 8 points and
Naomi Stuger's 7 rebounds.
The second half was another sensational half for
Naomi Stuger. The junior pitched in another 8 rebounds and finished with 13 points in the contest. In regards to
Naomi Stuger's double double Coach Gregg had this to say, "Naomi is just a battler. She crashed the boards extremely hard and she was 9-10 from the free-throw line. Extremely pleased with how Naomi played this evening." With 0:16 remaining,
Kristin Giles converted on a 3-point play that gave the Fleet a 50-47 lead that they would never relinquish.
Myranda Parham had another solid performance with 8 points and 4 rebounds, while
Jordan Whitesides pitched in 8 rebounds and 3 blocks defensively.
Kristin Giles finished with 13 points, and
Raygon Hendrix accumulated 7 boards and 2 points.
The Fleet looks to continue their solid play against Bob Jones University tomorrow night in Belk Arena. Game time is set for 5:30 P.M.
