Fleet drop pair of matches at Pirate Invitational

Savannah, GA – After picking up a win in their season opener Friday night, the Fleet suffered losses to Lincoln Memorial University and Tusculum College Saturday on the 2nd and final day of the 2015 Pirate Invitational hosted by Armstrong State University.

In the first match of the day, the Fleet battled the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial falling 3-0.  The Railsplitters used aggressive serving in the first set to capture a 25-14 advantage.  The 2nd set featured back and forth action with the Fleet falling by a slim 25-23 margin.  The Fleet lead for most of the 3rd set but LMU rallied to tie the game at 24-24 before scoring the game's final two points.  Both teams struggled with errors in the contest, but the Fleet amassed 28 to the Railsplitters' 19.

Junior Kristen Dodge led the Fleet with a game high 32 assists and 13 digs.  Senior Kelly Sullivan had a game high 13 kills, while Junior Kendall Kirk once again led the Fleet with 16 digs.

The second match pitted the Fleet against Tusculum College.  The Fleet and Pioneers battled in three tightly contested sets, but Tusculum would eventually prevail 3-0.  The Pioneers were able to make runs in each set and would win by scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-19.

Junior Marissa Greenough led the Fleet with a game high 14 kills.  Dodge and Kirk chipped in 17 assists and 17 digs, respectively.

The Fleet continue their non-conference schedule on Tuesday when they will travel to Wingate University for matches against UNC Pembroke and Wingate.  They will then return for their home opener at Flagler on Friday.
