Paul Fitzgerald (Charlotte, NC, Providence Day ) shot an even par (70-72-74-216 to finish third overall in the Conference Carolinas Championship Tournament hosted by Belmont Abbey College at the Bryan Park Championship Course. As a team, the Flying Fleet tied for the fifth with the University of Mount Olive Trojans.
The 5'11 sophomore opened the tournament with a two under par as the Flying Fleet sat in second place after the opening round. While Fitzgerald shot par on day two, his teammates slipped and the Flying Fleet, who shot a 305, fell to fifth place. Erskine closed out the tournament strong with a 299 to finish in fifth place. With his third place finish, Fitzgerald earned All-Tournament honors.
Senior
Ford Blanchard (Orangeburg, SC, Orangeburg Preparatory Schools) was next in the clubhouse for the Fleet, finishing eight over par (72-76-76-224 and in 21
st place overall.
Nicholas Karageorgos (Charlotte, NC, T.L. Hanna High School) shot a two over par on the third day to finish in 26
th place and junior
Tyler Lucas (Rock Hill, SC, Northwestern High School) rounded out the scoring for the Fleet with a 72-80-79-231.
Limestone won the tournament with three golfers placing in the top 10. King University finished in second place, five strokes behind Limestone, while North Greenville University claimed third place.
King's Ross Maietta won individual medalist honors with a three under par (72-70-71-213). Belmont Abbey's Nick Stafford was two strokes back, edging Fitzgerald by a stroke, to claim second place.
Erskine now waits to hear if they will claim an at-large spot in the upcoming NCAA Regional Tournament.
