Tigerville, SC – Erskine College split a Conference Carolinas double header with North Greenville University Saturday afternoon, winning game one 7-1 and losing game two 9-6. With the split, Erskine locks up second place in the conference and will be the number two seed in the Conference Carolinas tournament starting Thursday in Burlington, NC.
Game OneNeither team could get any offense going through the first three innings. With two outs in the top of the fourth,
Sam Cothran would single to right field and then stole second.
Hanlon Maivelett would then single up the middle to score Cothran and give Erskine the lead. The Fleet would add to their lead in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded and two outs,
Richard Dix would come off the bench and single to right field to score two and make it a 3-0 game. Erskine would add four more runs in the last two innings to take the victory.
Cothran led the Fleet at the plate going 2-4 with a double and three runs scored.
Andrew Kozak added two hits and
Brandon Wooten was 1-3 with a home run and three RBI's.
Noah Hinzman (4-0) picked up the win allowing one run on one hit in 2.2 innings of relief.
Wes Schuler (1) picked up the save striking out four in 2.1 innings and not allowing a hit.
Game TwoIn the top of the first,
Brandon Overstreet would lead off with a single and Cothran would follow with a home run to right field to give Erskine a 2-0 lead. North Greenville would score two runs in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. In the top of the sixth,
Logan Galliher would blast a two run home run to left center field to make it a one run game.
Destin Nichols would then single to left and be replaced by pinch runner
Chris Moody. Moody would advance to second on a wild pitch and then scored when Dix again came off the bench and doubled to center field. Overstreet would then hit a RBI double to left to give Erskine the 6-5 lead. The lead would be short lived as the Crusaders would answer with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and held on for the win.
Overstreet was 3-4 with a double and one RBI to lead the Fleet. Galliher was 2-3 with a home run and two runs driven in, while Nichols was 2-3.
Landon Dickerson (1-2) took the loss allowing three runs in one-third of an inning of relief work.
