Greenwood, S.C. – Playing under beautiful blue skies, the Erskine Flying Fleet finished 10
th in the 17 team Bearcat Classic Golf Tournament hosted by Lander University at the Greenwood Country Club.
Six strokes separated Erskine from 4
th place Clayton State. Erskine shot a three-round score of 869 while Clayton State finished with an 863. Belmont Abbey edged Erskine by a single stroke to claim 9
th place while Lander, Mount Olive, and Georgia Southwestern finished tied for sixth place with an 865.
The Fleet golfers finished with six strokes of each other. Senior
Brad Thorne (Moore, SC, Oakbrook Preparatory School) led the Fleet, finishing tied for 15
th with a three round score of 215 (72-68-75).
Tyler Lucas (Rock Hill, SC, Northwestern High School) and
Ford Blanchard (Orangeburg, SC, Orangeburg Preparatory Schools) finished one and two scores back respectively.
Paul Fitzgerald (Charlotte, NC, Providence Day ) rounded out the Fleet's scoring with a 221 (74-73-74).
Flagler College won the tournament, firing a tournament low 274 in the second round. Georgia College edged Columbus State by a stroke to claim second place.
Flagler's Sebastian Barnoya won the tournament, finishing thirteen under par. Newberry's Tommy Hurst finished second, five strokes behind Barnoya.
Erskine will play their last tournament before the conference tournament next week at the Campbell Oil/Sunoco Classic.
