Due West, S.C. – Facing a tough opening day opponent, the Erskine Flying Fleet (0-1) lost to the Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia (1-0) 9 to 0 this afternoon in non-conference men's tennis action at the Erskine College Tennis Courts.
UNG took a quick three-point lead, winning all three doubles matches. Erskine's
Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) and
Jason Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) played well, but UNG's duo of Matheus Guida and Mateus Camasmie won the match 8-4.
The Fleet continued to play hard in the singles matches but, in the end, the Nighthawks won all six matches to earn the 9 to 0 victory.
Erskine will seek to rebound against local, in-state rival Newberry College next Monday.
