AIKEN, SC - Erskine College Women's Volleyball couldn't break through against the Eagles of Carson-Newman University tonight, and fell 3-0 in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Semifinals.
The Fleet advanced to the semifinal game after defeating host and regionally top ranked USC-Aiken in straight sets on Friday. It was the first time in program history that the Fleet have advance to the NCAA Southeast Region Semifinals. All three sets against Carson-Newman were very competitive (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) with the largest margin of victory for the Eagles being 3 points. In the 1st set, the Fleet held a slim 23-22 lead late, but Carson-Newman was able to rally for three straight points to win. In the 2nd and 3rd sets, the Eagles held the lead for most of the set, and the Fleet were unable to complete late comebacks in each set.
The Fleet were lead by Senior
Kelly Sullivan. She was the only Fleet player that managed to reach double digit kills with 11.
Kristen Dodge contributed 34 assists and
Payton Duncan had a solid overall game with 9 kills and 19 digs.
Kendall Kirk tracked down a game high 25 digs.
Erskine ends the year with an impressive 23-7 record. The season yielded many team and individual accomplishments that the Fleet will look to build on for next season.
