TIGERVILLE, SC - The Fleet Women's Volleyball team needed only one hour and twenty minutes to fly by the Crusaders of North Greenville University, 3-0. The road victory extends Erskine's record in Conference Carolinas to 8-0, and their overall winning streak to 7 games.
It was another balanced attack that brought the Fleet their 4th consecutive win in straight sets. The 1st and 3rd sets featured the Fleet using mid-set runs to jump ahead and win both sets by a score of 25-15. The 2nd set was a completely different story. The Crusaders jumped out to a 6-1 lead, and led by a sizable margin as late as 21-15. The Fleet would respond by winning 8 of the next 9 points to take a lead and eventually win the set 28-26. Again,
Sami Harting seemed to spark the Fleet. In that 8-1 run, she was responsible for 3 kills and two block assists.
Overall, the Fleet attack was once again lead by
Payton Duncan with 13 kills.
Marissa Greenough was right behind with 12 kills and she and Duncan were both just short of a double-double contributing 9 digs each. Harting finished off 10 kills and was also big at the net with 5 blocks.
Kristen Dodge once again dished out a game high 37 assists.
After the match, Coach Vahjen was complimentary of her teams offensive effeciency stating, "Our serving and ball control helped us to have a more effecient offensive night against a strong opponent".
Erskine's win tonight sets up a huge Conference Carolinas match up tomorrow at Southern Wesleyan University. The Warriors are also 8-0 in conference play. Game time is set for 2 pm.
