Bristol, Tenn. – The Erskine Flying Fleet shot a second round low 279 to finish second in the King University Invite (Par 70, 6,474 yards) held at the Country Club of Bristol.
After Monday's first round, Erskine sat in third place, six strokes behind second place Belmont Abbey College. The Fleet fired a 279 today to move into second place. Unfortunately for the Flying Fleet, North Greenville University owned the course on Monday, firing a tournament low 269, seventeen strokes ahead of the Fleet, to cruise to a 12 stroke victory today.
Junior
Tyler Lucas (Rock Hill, SC, Northwestern High School) led the Flying Fleet, finishing in fourth place with an even par (69-71-140). Finishing just a stroke back were senior
Brad Thorne (Moore, SC, Oakbrook Preparatory School) and sophomore
Paul Fitzgerald (Charlotte, NC, Providence Day ). Thorne made a move up the leaderboard on day two, shooting a two under par to finish in sixth place (73-68-141) with Fitzgerald, who was two over on the first day and fired a one under par today. Junior
Cameron Ford (Bridgeport, WV, Bridgeport High School) rounded out the scoring for Erskine, shooting a one over par on both days to finish in 11
th place, just missing a top 10 finish.
North Greenville University claimed the top three spots. Christian Constance won the tournament finishing five under par, two strokes ahead of teammate Sam Goodnight. Evan Gfeller came in third place at one under par.
Erskine will complete the fall portion of their schedule at the Rock Barn Intercollegiate to be held at the Rock Barn Resort and Spa.
