Erskine sweeps LImestone 3-0 to remain perfect in conference play

Box Score Due West, S.C. - The Erskine Flying Fleet (8-5, 4-0) swept the Limestone College Saints (4-11, 3-1) in straight sets 3 to 0 (25-17, 28-26, 25-21) to remain undefeated in conference play and extend their winning streak to four games.

When Coach Vahjen was asked what the most crucial part of the match was, she responded, "The goal in the game was confidence and sticking to the game plan.  The girls did a good job being in their game and it showed on the court."

Their confidence played off well as the Fleet won all three sets, including one in extra points.  The first set started off with a kill by senior outside hitter Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) and the Fleet never looked back, only losing the lead to the Saints once.  Trailing by one, Erskine's Kendall Kirk (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) went back to serve to six consecutive times as the Fleet offense took off.  This gave the Fleet a lead that never dropped below four points for the rest of the set.  The set was ended at 25-17 on an ace by Bullock.

The second set was extremely tight with the score being tied 18 times with the Fleet not seeing their first lead until Bullock hammered home a point to make the score 15 to 14.  Trailing by a point at 26 to 25, the Fleet scored three consecutive points to finish off the set; a kill by middle blocker Rissa Mayfield (Durham, NC, Riverside HIgh School), followed by an ace by Kirk, and a kill by middle blocker Kelly Sullivan (Wellington, FL, Wellington Community High School) won the set 28 to 26.

The final set saw a slow start by the Fleet, being down 5 to 12 in the early stages.  Never losing their confidence or straying from the game plan, Erskine used two Saint errors to start a 9 to 2 run and tie the game at 14 to 14.  The Fleet never trailed from that point and won the set 25 to 21 on a kill by outside hitter Marissa Greenough (Laguna Beach, CA, Laguna Beach High School).

Bullock continued her climb up the career kill leaderboard with a game-high 11 kills.  Bullock needs just ten kills to past Lauren Stewart '13 for the most career kills.  Sullivan added 10 kills while Kirk contributed a game-high 17 digs from the back row.

Erskine travels next weekend to play conference foes Pfeiffer University on Friday and Belmont Abbey College on Saturday.
