Milledgeville, GA – Playing just their second match of the year due to the recent wintery weather conditions, the Erskine Men's Tennis Team was swept 9-0 by #11 ranked Georgia College and State University Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.
In the doubles competition, GC narrowly escaped with the three points. Erskine's
Jason Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) and
Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) almost upset GC's Yannick Hass and Alex Schubert losing 8-6. GC easily won the other two doubles matches.
Mathewes continued his strong play into his singles match. After being pounded in his first set 6-0, Mathewes ripped off a win in the second set 6-4 to force the tie-breaker set, which he lost 10-2. GC won the other five singles matches in straight sets.
Erskine will play at Francis Marion University this Thursday starting at 2:30 p.m. This match was originally scheduled to be played back on February 8
th but was postponed due to inclement weather.
