Men's Tennis opens season with a loss to UNG

Dahlonega, GA – The Erskine Men's Tennis Team opened their 2014 with an 8 to 1 loss to the University of North Georgia this afternoon in non-conference men's tennis action.

In the doubles competition, Erskine dropped all three sets.  At #1 doubles, sophomore Jason Harris (Benoni, South Africa, Christian Brothers College) and junior Wilson Mathewes (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) lost a heart-breaker 9 to 7 while Andre Andre (Setubal, Portugal) and Alan Pearce (Greenville, SC, Mauldin High School) fell at #2 doubles 8-4.  UNG easily won the third doubles set 8 to 1.

Erskine scored their lone point in the singles competition.  Harris triumphed in his first match as a member of the Flying Fleet 6-3, 4-2.  His competitor withdrew midway through the second set due to injury.  Erskine had a shot at another point but Andre, who was leading 2 to 1, had to resign due to injury.  UNG won the other four matches in straight sets over Erskine.

Erskine travels to Florence, South Carolina, next Saturday to play Francis Marion University.
