Box Score Due West, S.C. – Playing before a "monster" crowd, the Erskine Flying Fleet (17-6, 13-0) scared the Crusaders of North Greenville University (16-10, 3-7) to death with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-15) victory in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action at Belk Arena.
After a slow start in the first set, senior outside hitter
Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) took the lead and helped her team with 14 kills while libero
Kendall Kirk (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) anchored the Erskine defense with 8 digs.
Kirk is confident after tonight's win but says, "we have to stay focused. Tomorrow is a big game and we have to take it one game at a time." Erskine plays the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University, who are currently chasing the Fleet for first place in the conference.
Erskine started the second set way stronger with runs of 4-0, 6-1, and 11-3 extending their lead to 20-10. Erskine's
Sade Mendez (Gardena, CA, Redondo Union High School) led the second set with 5 kills and Bullock sealed the set with the last 3 kills to an end and complete the score of 25 to 13.
The Crusaders' Yomi Adeyeye tried to bring her team back in the game in the final set. Nevertheless, Erskine won the game by the score of 25 to 15 in the third set thanks to a again strong set from Bullock who added five more kills.
Bullock crushed a game-high 14 kills along with 3 service aces and 8 digs. Junior Kelly Sullivan added 10 kills while Mendez finished with 9 kills.
Erskine stays focused as they play the Worriors of Southern Wesleyan University tomorrow in their second game this weekend. Game time is set for 2 p.m in Belk Arena.
