Conover, N.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet finished 9
th in the 21 team Rock Barn Invitational hosted by Lenior-Rhyne University at the Rock Barn Golf and Spa (Jones Course).
The Flying Fleet shot a 309 on the first day and shot seven strokes better on day two but could not move up in the team standings. Chico State won the tournament firing a 294 on day two to hold off Georgia Southwestern, who shot a tournament low 293 today to finish second.
The Flying Fleet were led by junior
Tyler Lucas (Rock Hill, SC, Northwestern High School), who shot a 75 on both days to finish tied for 14
th. Sophomore
Paul Fitzgerald (Charlotte, NC, Providence Day ) was next in the clubhouse for the Fleet, firing a 77-75-152 to finish tied for 25
th. Following Fitzgerald were the two seniors
Ford Blanchard (Orangeburg, SC, Orangeburg Preparatory Schools) and
Brad Thorne (Moore, SC, Oakbrook Preparatory School). Blanchard struggled in the first round with 82 but bounced back strong on day two with a one over par (73) to finish 41
st. Thorne completed the scoring for the Fleet with a 75-80-155 in 49
th place.
Chico State's Lee Gearhart powered his team to first place shooting a five under par for the tournament. Zak Kiefer of Ferris State finished second at even par.
This tournament concludes the Fleet's fall portion of their schedule.
