Box Score Due West, S.C. – The Erskine College Flying Fleet (14-6, 10-0) were able to sweep the Lions of Emmanuel College (9-11, 3-6) in three sets (25-12 25-13 25-20) in Conference Carolina's women's volleyball action at Belk Arena. The Fleet were led by junior
Kelly Sullivan (Wellington, FL, Wellington Community High School) who totaled 12 kills and two aces
The Fleet were able to grab a quick 10-4 lead in the first set. The Lions of Emmanuel were able to hang around during the beginning of the first set and brought the score to 12-8. However, the Fleet were able to pull away by going on an eight point run before winning the first set 25-12.
The second set started much like the first, with Erskine grabbing a quick 10-5 lead. Emmanuel was able to bring the score to 12-7 in favor of Erskine. However behind two aces each from Sullivan and senior
Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School), the Fleet were able to pull away and win the second set 25-13.
The third set was the closest, with the Fleet struggling to pull away. The Fleet started with a 12-7 lead, before they were able to go on a bit of a run by making it 20-11. The Lions were able to pull the set close again by going on a run of their own, making the score 23-17. At that point the Fleet were able to close the set 25-20 to win the game and move to 14-6 overall and an impressive 10-0 record in conference games.
Freshman
Catherine McAlister (Charleston, SC, Bishop England School) also had an impressive game, crushing 8 kills on 13 attempts while setter
Kristen Dodge (Duncan, SC, Byrnes High School) handed a game-high 32 assists.
The Lions were led by Danielle Sweet's 7 kills and 3 blocks.
The Fleet will take on Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on October 24 at 7:00 pm.
