Erskine wins home opener over Converse 3-0

Box Score Due West, S.C. – Using home court advantage, the Erskine Flying Fleet (2-6, 1-2) rallied back twice from game point to sweep the Valkyries of Converse College (1-11, 0-2) 3 to 0 in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action at Belk Arena.  Erskine had played their first seven games on the road.

In the first and third sets, the Fleet fended off game point to win both sets 26 to 24.  In the first set, the Fleet scored nine unanswered points to win 26 to 24.  Senior Anna Butrym (West Columbia, SC, White Knoll High School) served three aces while freshman Marissa Greenough (Laguna Beach, CA, Laguna Beach High School) had two kills to fuel the miraculous comeback.

With the momentum firmly in hand, Erskine blasted Converse in the second set, winning 25 to 13. 

Converse regrouped during the intermission and the Fleet found themselves in another tight contest in the third set.  With the game tied 23-23, Converse got a kill from Meg Taylor to secure game point.  But the Fleet scored three unanswered points, a kill by Marissa Mayfield (Durham, NC, Riverside HIgh School) to tie the game followed by a kill and an ace by Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) to win the set and match.

Bullock finished with a game-high 11 kills and had 6 service aces along with a team-high 9 digs.
 
Michaela Evers led the Valkyries with 6 kills and 2 blocks.

Erskine plays three matches at home this weekend.  On Friday night, the Fleet host King College followed by two matches on Saturday against Lees-McRae College and USC-Aiken.
